Merobebe is back with wine and no bullshit šŸ˜

(get in, loser, we’re smashing the patriarchy with wine)

Hey!

It’s been a minute, I know.

Last time I was in your inbox, I said, ā€œSee you after the holidaysā€ and then promptly ghosted you. Oops. My bad.

Now, I’m back. I missed you, and I’m ready to catch up!

In case you need a reminder -

Hi! I’m Megumi, sommelier and founder of Merobebe (pronounced meh-roh-beh-beh).

When I sent that last Merobebe email in November 2023, I was in Los Angeles, working at a small startup as the first hire. I launched Merobebe earlier that year to make wine education more fun and inclusive while uplifting the women driving the industry

Then…I burned out. Not just from Merobebe, but from a (let’s be honest) toxic startup culture. I left that job, pivoted into freelance work, and spent much of 2024 doom-scrolling, switching between existential dread and Steve Kornacki’s electoral maps.

At that point, a newsletter sharing wine facts and featuring women in wine wasn’t enough anymore.

I wanted to create spaces where women could feel truly connected and elevated. While drinking wine, obviously.

So last September, I hosted our first ever in-person event: Wine, Women & Wisdom.

We gathered women leaders across LA, tasted women-made wines curated by a woman-owned importer, connected through structured, real conversations (not just small talk), and closed with a fireside chat on inclusive leadership.

A fireside chat with Dr. Cathryn Dhanatya on inclusive leadership

It felt right. It felt like not just what I wanted, but what we needed. And it was just the beginning.

Now, I’m finally ready to bring Merobebe back:

Refreshed, realigned, and ready to pour.

Welcome to the new Merobebe.

I’m here to share my honest, no bullshit perspective on business, life, and wine.

(Always wine.)

I believe women don’t need more advice. They need more rooms.

Rooms where they don’t have to earn their seat, and where they don’t have to shrink their ambition, dim their stories, or pretend they’re not fucking tired.

I believe in power with softness.

In leadership with laughter.

In saying the hard thing (gently, sharply, beautifully.)

I believe vulnerability is the strategy, that community and connection is our currency, and wine?

Wine is the invitation.

Starting next Wednesday, May 14, I’ll be back in your inbox.

Expect my undiluted takes on being a woman in business, whether that’s corporate America, startups, entrepreneurship, freelancing, and acting (been there), alongside easy-to-digest wine tips and highlights of woman-owned/made wines.

This is not your typical ā€œthis happened to me, let me tell you how to be better.ā€

I do things my way. You’ll do things yours.

That’s the beauty of it.

I’m just here to share the highs, the lows, and the messiness in between.

If you’re in, I’m thrilled to be pouring for you again.

Let’s rise by lifting others with all the messy, beautiful ambition we carry.

See you soon (actually this time),

P.S. Got thoughts? Wine recs? Millennial trauma memes? Hit reply! I’m curious.
