Hey friends,

I hope you are all staying safe and warm!

This week’s issue is a little different for a few reasons -

  1. My wine exam is this weekend, and I am cramming 😭

  2. With everything going on in the world, I have a couple events coming up I wanted to share with you

Next Thursday, February 5 on Zoom
6 pm PST | 9 pm EST

If you’ve been feeling angry, sad, or overwhelmed with the news so far this year, you’re not alone.

In addition to the escalating violence in Minnesota, ICE has increased its activity in other states, including Maine — where it has referred to its operation as "Catch of the Day" — as well as in the Kansas City metro area, where I live.

We are witnessing children, immigrants, and U.S. citizens being detained and, in some cases, k*lled.

We’ve also seen moments of hope:
Inspiring videos of protestors, volunteers, and so-called "organized gangs of wine moms" coming together in Minnesota to speak out, show up for their neighbors, and protect their community.

All of this has left many of us asking, “What can I do?”

That’s why hosting a virtual wine tasting & fundraiser next Thursday evening with attorney, advocate, author, and award-winning podcast co‑host Misasha Suzuki Graham.

A graduate of Harvard College and Columbia Law School, Misasha has nearly 20 years of experience as a litigator and has been featured on FOX, NBC, Forbes, and more.

She volunteers her time and legal expertise to safeguard elections and voting rights, sits on the board of First Gen Empower, an organization designed to help and support first generation immigrants and undocumented residents, and works with grassroots orgs to fight book bans, safeguard access to education, and make sure every child is valued.

Misasha will help us make sense of what’s happening, share practical steps we can take to push back and support our communities.

We’ll start off with a BYOB wine tasting (because we all need a moment to take a fucking breath), and then we’ll go into a conversation with Misasha (not a lecture).

All proceeds go to support the Minnesota Immigrant Defense Network.

If you're unavailable but still interested in supporting the fundraiser, you can still contribute by donating to the link above and sharing this event with friends!

Wednesday, February 11 in NYC
6 - 9 pm EST

Now, more than ever, we need to put more money into the hands of women:

That’s why my next NYC event will be focused on women and money.

Whether you’re single, partnered, or somewhere in between, one truth holds: financial independence is essential.

I’ll be joined by Sol Lee, co-founder of Neptune — an AI concierge for modern couples navigating high-stakes financial decisions, starting with prenups — to explore how women today are approaching life changes, conversations around money, and long-term financial wellbeing in every part of life.

As always, the event will highlight women-owned and made wine & food:

  • Wine by Erin Reddan of ECR Vintners

  • Food by Sophia Wronsky, of the popular food newsletter Sophia is Voracious and the newly launched Cantinery in Brooklyn

In addition, you’ll get a gift at the end to help you have better money conversations!

And see you next week when I’m back to regularly scheduled programming - and hopefully at one (or both) of the events above!

Cheers,
